“It excites me to see that we could get some of the finest movers and shakers of the country and beyond up at 8:30 in the morning to come and listen to ideas.”
Speaking about what culminated in the idea of THiNK Mr Tejpal spoke of the ennui that he felt was a result of “conversations that were uni-dimensional.” He said, “As a country I felt that our connection with the cerebral was on a decline..what we pursue at THiNK is to open up our minds to new ideas.”
Mr Tejpal emphasised on the need to shift focus from the convention of equating a country’s success with its GDP figures only, especially when it’s a country like India that has a lot of muted voices of the dispossessed. Mr Tejpal spoke of the need of a platform like THiNK where those voices may also be heard.
“This country’s fate cannot be based solely on GDP…here at THiNK, let’s remind ourselves that most of the finest human feats have nothing to do with money. And some of those very achievers across the world are here to share their stories.”
THiNK is designed to be a unique platform for ideas, debates and conversations that are eclectic and engaging. And more often than not, the ideas and thoughts that come through from THiNK transcend immediate context, and hold relevance to our times, our society as well.
Eminent personalities at THiNK 2013 include such names as Amitabh Bachchan, Robert De Niro, Bianca Jagger, David Priestland, Gary Kasparov, John Pilger, Louise Leakey and many more larger-than-life figures. The first edition of THiNK came alive in 2011 with a diverse array of global achievers all coalescing into a singular medium of intellectual exchange. And that tradition of attracting the best minds for the common pursuit of knowledge and stimulating conversation has stayed on.
