EMANUELE
SCANZIANI
‘With Tara, I like to
explore different topics
and styles of drawing.
This project popped
into life by itself. At
first, I didn't know
why I was doing this.
But, afterwards, I
discovered that some
of the poses were
benefitting my health.
And, looking back, it
also made me smile’
Freelance Italian artist and Auroville resident Emanuele
Scanziani was chosen by Tara Books publishers Gita Wolf and
Sirish Rao to illustrate Metamorphosis, a book that portrays
yogic asanas such as the Downward-Facing Dog or the King
Cobra through fantastic yet accurate drawings, turning the
human form into a lion, snake, scorpion or stone bridge. The
text, by Jennifer Abel, describes both the physical pose and the
imaginative, meditative essence of the asana, so it is possible to
enjoy this book just for its art, or to use it to learn, or practice,
yoga. Metamorphosis will be released in October, 2008. |
