Shantaram, the story of Gregory Roberts — number one on Australia’s most wanted list — and his transformation in India will now be produced into a Hollywood movie, starring Johnny Depp. In his own words, Roberts was “a revolutionary who lost his ideals in heroin, a philosopher who lost his integrity in crime, and a poet who lost his soul in a maximum-security prison.” Depp beat Russell Crowe in the auction for the right to the 1000-page novel.
