Untimely snowfall and heavy rains have not only disrupted life in the valley but also have triggered flood like situations. The valley is cut-off from rest of the country as the Srinagar-Jammu National highway remained closed due to unexpected snowfall, rains and shooting stones.
Srinagar rains during the month of April are usually far and few, but this year Western Disturbances have been very active which has led to rain and snow in J&K along with neighbouring Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand. Srinagar recorded a tremendous 83 mm of rain which is the highest ever during the month of April.
Most of the rivers, streams and lakes are swollen in the valley.
The divisional administration ordered the closure of all schools in the Kashmir Valley till April 10.
“There would be gradual decrease in snow and rainfall activity from Thursday afternoon and improvement in weather will start from tomorrow (Friday),” said Sanam Lotus, Director of the J&K Met department.
