Security forces recovered pistols, eight in all, explosive material, 650 rounds of ammunition, gold, cash, a train timetable and SIM cards from a Lucknow locality where they shot dead a terrorist in Lucknow.
The terrorist, suspected to belong to the dreaded ISIS, had hidden in Thakurganj, the city’s populated area. The police said Saifullah was believed to be linked to the Bhopal-Ujjain train mini blast near Jabdi station of Madhya Pradesh which saw 10 persons injured on March 7.
It may be noted two suspects were arrested from Kanpur and one from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh. Three more were arrested in Madhya Pradesh as the CCTV footage from the site had helped in their identification.
Also, it was suspected that the bomb used in the train blast was allegedly assembled in the house. An ISIS flag was also found there. This apart, the security forces were also on the look out for one more ISIS terrorist, while two were killed during an operation carried out in Thakuganj area.
It was also suspected that Saifullah was part of a group planning an attack somewhere in Uttar Pradesh. The ATS personnel found his body after they entered the house in which the terrorists were holed up. This took place before the last phase of voting began for the UP Assembly election on March 8.
