A hotel near Polo Victory Cinema in Bani Park was sealed and two of its employees were arrested following a rumour that beef was being cooked there. The arrested duo would be produced before a magistrate soon.
Trouble started a day after Yogi Adityanath of Hindu Yuva Vahini assumed charge as the CM of Uttar Pradesh. This made cow vigilante groups in Rajasthan swing into action and rush into Hotel Hayat Rabbani claiming that beef was being cooked and served there.
Kamla Didi, a leader of Rashtriya Mahila Gau Rakshak Sewa Mandal led the activists up to the hotel and claimed that a youth, who came to dispose off waste, was allegedly feeding beef to the cows. Soon after, around 100 people collected outside the hotel and raised slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’.
Two of the hotel employees were booked under Section 151 of Criminal Procedure Code. Since the owner of the hotel, Naeem Rabbani, had absconded, his brother-in-law, who had no connection with the hotel, was taken to the Sindhi Camp Police Station.
Police searched the Jamaat Islami Hind office after communal harmony brochures were found at the hotel. The hotel has been bagging awards for good service from the hoteliers’ association.
As a matter of fact local residents were angered over the ‘non-vegetarian’ waste which the hotel threw outside, which were consumed by cows, said the police.
Meanwhile, the police have sent samples taken from the hotel for forensic examination. They, however said that prima facie, it doesn’t appear that there was any violation of the law.
