Defending demonetisation, Modi said the time was ripe for the note ban. ‚ÄúThe timing was just perfect. When can you have an operation? When the body is healthy. For demonetisation, good economy was needed and this was a proper time,” said Modi.
Stating that the Opposition was more interested in giving television bytes than debating issues, ‚ÄúFrom day one, we were ready for a debate on demonetisation, but the members were more interested in giving television¬†bytes.‚ÄĚ
Blasting the Opposition, he said, ‚ÄúYes. Rules were changed repeatedly post-demonetization as we wanted to find ways to ease problems of people.” Comparing demonetisation with the Swachh Bharat mission, he said the “demonetisation drive was akin to cleaning India of corruption and black money.‚ÄĚ
Congress did not implement note ban for political reasons. ¬†‚ÄúThey looted, while we have recovered,‚ÄĚ he said.
After demonetisation, he said the government had also pointed out that India could move towards cashless modes of transactions.
Taking potshots against the Congress, the PM said, ‚ÄúDynasty is above democracy for Congress. In 1975, they had even threatened democracy. We have no faith in dynasty politics and sycophancy,‚ÄĚ said Modi.
Stating that Indian freedom was not a gift of the Gandhis alone, he said why doesen’t the party not speak of Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad among others? he asked.
