While at least seven passengers died on-the-spot, three others succumbed to injuries. The death toll may, however, increase as many passengers were trapped inside the front portion of the bus.
The police rushed the injured to hospitals at Vijayawada, Gollapudi and Nandigama, the condition of eight persons is said to be serious.
The private bus, carrying 45 persons, including two drivers and a cleaner, was proceeding to Hyderabad from Bhubaneswar.
Rescue workers faced difficulty in removing the bodies crushed between the seats inside the bus. It took over four hours to remove all the bodies as well as the injured passengers from the bus.
The incident occurred at around 6 am. Onlookers told the police that the bus fell into the culvert between two bridges. Many passengers were asleep when the incident took place.
Meanwhile, the police suspectÂ that the bus driver may have fallen asleep, leading to the accident. The speeding bus crashed through a 3-ft high restraining wall of the bridge.
In October 2013, a Diwakar Travels Volvo bus taken on lease by Jabbar Travels coming from Bengaluru to Hyderabad caught fire killing 45 passengers at Kothakota in Mahbubnagar district.
