In a inter-caste attack following an altercation, nine Dalits were injured in Hisar district’s Mirchpur from where CRPF troops were withdrawn last month following casteist violence.
The attackers had passed a caste related remark on a Dalit when they were watching a cycle show on January 30 night, according to the police. When the Dalits assembled they protested against the remark, people of another community attacked them.
Meanwhile, SP RK Meena and Deputy Commissioner Nikhil Gajraj and some other police officers reached the spot and deployed additional police force in the village to keep the situation under control. The in-charge of Mirchpur Chowki has been transferred.
One injured was admitted to Agroha Medical College while five others to civil hospital with simple injuries and they will be discharged on January 31.
Fearing a upper caste backlash, the Dalit families have said that they would not live in the village. The police chased and stopped the Dalit families on the outskirts of the village and urged them to discuss their problems with the District Collector.
The police have filed a case under Sections 148, 149, 323, 324 of the Indian Penal Code and under the provisions of the SC/ST Act has been registered against 15 persons in Narnaund Police Station on January 30.
