In a latest development in the Sunanda Pushkar death controversy, the Delhi police registered a murder case against unknown persons on Tuesday claiming that Pushkar was poisoned and died an unnatural death.
âSunanda Pushkar died of poisoning which was either given to her orally or injected inside her body,â said Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi.
“We can only say which substance caused the poisoning after further investigation,” he added.
Sunanda (52), wife of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a 5-star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17 2014, a day after her twitter spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar over an alleged affair with Tharoor.
The autopsy conducted by forensic experts at AIIMS last year had mentioned more than a dozen injury marks on Sunandaâs both hands and an abrasion on her cheek suggesting a âuse of blunt forceâ, besides a âdeep teeth biteâ on the edge of her left palm. Viscera samples were preserved after the autopsy at AIIMS and were sent to CFSL for further tests. The CFSL report had hinted at drug poisoning.
