After the BJP held a big election rally at Delhi’s Ram Lila maidan with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching its election campaign, the bugle for the Delhi assembly polls had being sounded. It was widely expected that the dates for the Delhi assembly polls would be announced shortly by the election commission of India. And predictably it happened that way. The Election Commission of India has finally  announced the dates for fresh polls for the 70-member Delhi legislative assembly, which has been under President’s Rule since February last year.
The three-member central election commission, led by chief election commissioner VS Sampath, announced the dates after its meeting. This is incidentally the last election announced by Sampath as he retires on January 15. The commission said the single-phase election will be held on February 7. The results will be on February 10. With the poll date announcement, the model code of conduct has come into force.
